Powdersville JV Football fell in a region game at Emerald 28-6 on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Patriot fans came home in shock after a dramatic Emerald violation in the fourth quarter.
Both defenses held during the first quarter. With 7:26 remaining in the half, Emerald’s defense picked off an interception and ran it for a touchdown. Four minutes later, Emerald scored on an 84-yard run to take a 14-0 lead at the half.
Vikings scored twice in the third quarter to extend their margin to 28-0. With a minute remaining in the period, sophomore Miles Freeman returned a kickoff to the Patriots’ 40-yard line. With nine minutes remaining in the game, freshman Tamajai Strickland finished the Patriot drive with a 20-yard touchdown and narrowed the gap to 28-6. Following a wide PAT attempt, Patriots kicked off to the Vikings. Emerald roughed the Patriot kicker with unsportsmanlike conduct. Patriot defense held Emerald scoreless the remainder of the game.
After Emerald’s violation, Patriot fans were in an uproar. Social media comments after the game indicated Patriot varsity players would be motivated to play their best when Emerald varsity travels to Powdersville Friday night. Patriots’ JV record slips to 2-5 and 1-1 in the region. Powdersville JV will host Southside next Thursday, October 12, at 7pm. Play hard, Patriots! #OneTeamOneDream #GoPatriots!
