JV Football wins 50-14! Congratulations to Powdersville JV Football on their region victory over Southside at home on Thursday, October 12, 2017. Patriots were down at end of the first quarter and came from behind for a big win for the home fans.
Southside scored early in the first quarter and added a two-point conversion to go up 8-0. Three minutes later, sophomore quarterback Brian Lowery connected with freshman Tamajai Strickland who sprinted to the goal line for touchdown then ran in a conversion play to tie the score 8-8. Before the period was over, Southside recovered a fumble inside their 15-yard line and scored within a few plays to go up 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Lowery found freshman Kiundre Hunter who turned on the jets for a 70-yard touchdown. Strickland ran in the conversion play to take a 16-14 lead. The Lowery-Strickland combo earned a 20-yard TD a few seconds before the half to extend the Patriots’ lead to 22-14 going into the break.
Patriots opened the second half with a beautiful 30-yard touchdown pass from Lowery to freshman Boston Cook and took a 28-14 lead. Later in the third quarter, sophomore Myles Freeman ran a Southside punt back to the 15-yard line. Lowery lofted a pass to freshman Cole Bracken for six points, then added two more with a conversion pass to Hunter. With 1:37 remaining in the third quarter, Strickland scored on a five-yard run across the goal line to push the margin to 42-14.
With 4:27 remaining in the fourth quarter, Bracken handed off to Strickland for a 40-yard touchdown run, then ran it himself for the two-point conversion. Before the game was over, freshman Kameron Key picked off an interception and Patriots finished the game with a score of 50-14.
With the win, Patriots’ JV record improves to 3-5 and 2-1 in the region. Powdersville JV travel to Berea next Thursday, October 19, at 7pm. Keep up the great work, Patriots! #OneTeamOneDream #GoPatriots!
