Powdersville stole the lead late in the game in an 8-5 victory over Westside on Thursday. The Patriots offense started off strong notching single runs in each of the first 3 innings, on a Cody Morris RBI single, a Braden Williams RBI double, and a Gavin Troyer groundout. The Westside offense would come alive in the top of the 4th as they pushed across 2 unearned runs. The Rams would strike for 3 more runs in the 5th giving them a 5-3 lead.
Powdersville would not trail for long, as another Morris RBI single, and an RBI double from Troyer put the Patriots back on top 6-5. Braden Williams would provide insurance for that lead by singling home another run in the inning. Westside would go quietly in the top of the 6th, and in the bottom half, Morris wasn’t done as he notched another RBI single pushing the Powdersville lead to 8-5. Westside would get a 1 out single in the top of the 7th, but the game ended relatively quietly.
Kyle Conklin started the game for Powdersville, but ended up not factoring in the decision despite throwing well. The lefty went four innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits, while striking out four. Morris added to his big day by picking up the win in relief as he threw the final three frames, scattering five hits with two earned runs and two strikeouts.
The Patriot offense collected 10 hits in the contest. Morris paced the attack tallying 3 hits and 4 RBI. Camden Troyer clubbed 2 and scored 3 runs, while Williams and Gavin Troyer chipped in 2 RBI each. Powdersville also totaled 8 stolen bases in the contest, led by 2 each from Camden Troyer and Andrew Dent.
The Patriots are back in action Thursday, as they host Pickens for Senior night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 with seniors being recognized prior to that.
