Game Recap

Homecoming win for Varsity Football! Congratulations to Powdersville’€™s Varsity Football team on their 70-0 region victory over Carolina High, Friday, September 30, 2016. The victory capped an action-packed week of Spirit and Homecoming events that included raising over $16K to build a tiny house in The Dream Center’€™s Opportunity Village, celebrating Powdersville’€™s first-ever Homecoming Parade, and crowning Madison Prince and Ben Rust as the 2016 Homecoming Queen and King. Varsity Football took the Homecoming theme of “Dream Big” to heart –€“ by the end of the game, they had set a new Powdersville record for most points in a game.

Powdersville came out strong, scoring a touchdown on a 14-yard Tay Cureton run within the first minute. Patriots found the end zone three more times in the first quarter – EJ Humphries scored twice on runs from 14 yards and four yards, while Blake Durham took a Cureton handoff for a six-yard run across the line. Austin Snow drilled the ball thru the uprights all four times to put Patriots in the lead 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Humphries scored his third TD of the night early in the second quarter on a six-yard run. With 9:53 remaining in the half, Gavin Agin intercepted a Carolina pass, running 32 yards to the 1-yard line. Tyler Venable carried the ball over the line on the next play.  Snow’€™s extra-point kicks were good both times, and Patriots went into the half up 42-0.

Less than two minutes into the third quarter, JJ Gentile scored on a 10-yard run. With 6:49 remaining, Dylan Taylor intercepted a Carolina pass deep in Patriot territory. In a third-and-10 situation, Keith Becknell connected with Jordan Meekins for a 32-yard pass play into the end zone. Four minutes later, Blake Durham scored his second TD of the night on a 16-yard run. Snow came through with the extra point kick all three times, and Patriots led 63-0 going into the final period.

With a continuous clock running in the fourth quarter, Agin returned a Carolina punt 56 yards to score the Patriots’ final touchdown. Snow’s night was perfect — 10 for 10 –€“ in kicking extra points. Patriot defense shut out the Trojans, and Powdersville finished the game up 70-0. After a week of challenges to Dream Big, Patriots responded with their biggest win ever. Congratulations!

With the win, Patriots’ overall record improves to 5-1, 1-0 in the region. Powdersville travels to Greenwood to play Emerald for their Week 7 region game on Friday, October 7. Keep this big winning streak going, Patriots!! #PowdersvilleStrong #Go Patriots!!
