Powdersville Varsity Girls Basketball fell 52-45 in a region game at Berea on Friday, February 2, 2018. Lady Patriots led much of the first half, then fell behind in the final period without enough time remaining on the clock to recover. Kudos to Lady Patriots for making the Lady Bulldogs work hard for the win!
Powdersville took the lead early in the first period and held onto it until the last second before halftime when Berea swished a three-point shot and took the lead 23-21. At the end of the third, Lady Bulldogs led 39-35. With five minutes remaining, Berea had built up a 10-point lead. Lady Patriots refused to give up and narrowed the gap to four points, 49-45, inside the two-minute mark. Powdersville had to foul to get the ball back, and Berea made their free throws in the final stretch to win by seven.
Mikaela McDaniel led the Lady Patriots with 21 points. Powdersville, 9-10 overall, 4-5 in the region, hosts Palmetto for the final game of regular season on Tuesday, February 6. Last time these two teams played, Palmetto won in overtime. Come out and support our Lady Patriots! Seniors will be recognized between the girls and boys games. Girls tip-off at 6:00 pm.
