One point! Powdersville Varsity Boys Basketball fell 52-51 to Carolina at home on Friday, December 21, 2018. Powdersville was up two points with two seconds remaining when Carolina hit a three-point baseline shot from the corner to win by one. What a heartbreaker!
Powdersville led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter and extended their margin to five points, 24-19, by the half. Carolina took the lead 32-31 with three minutes remaining in the third quarter and led 38-35 at the end of the period. Powdersville regained the lead, 39-38, with 5:51 remaining when junior Quez Owens stole the ball at half court and dunked it to the home fans’ delight. Carolina tied the game 43-43 by hitting free throws, then Powdersville went on a run and built up a 50-45 lead with 35 seconds remaining. Carolina hit two quick baskets, and Powdersville cashed a free throw for a 51-49 lead with 13 seconds to go. Carolina sunk the three-point shot from the corner with two seconds on the clock. Time expired before the Patriots could get off another shot. Hats off to the neighboring Trojans on a classic finish!
Junior Draylan Burton led the Patriots with 19 points while Owens hit 14 and junior David Cordle added 11. Powdersville (4-6 overall) travels to Woodruff Friday, December 28, for the first round of the Claw Classic Tournament.
