Powdersville Varsity Girls Basketball came up short, 50-44, in a region tie-breaker against Pendleton at Liberty High School on Thursday, February 7, 2019. After an intense showdown, Pendleton earned the second place bracket for Region I-AAA and Powdersville the third slot as they both advance to playoffs on Monday.
Lady Patriots jumped ahead early, with a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lady Bulldogs tied the score 18-18 with 1:54 remaining in the second quarter and led 22-21 at the half. Pendleton came out after the break hitting a three-point basket and building up a 38-30 advantage by the end of the third quarter. With 7:00 remaining in the final period, Pendleton led 40-30. Lady Patriots rallied and narrowed the gap to 40-36 with 5:03 remaining. Powdersville was still down by four, 48-44, with :33 left on the clock, and fouled to get the ball back. Pendleton sank two more free throws for the six-point win.
Senior Jeanette Campbell led the Lady Patriots with 18 points while freshman Kara Harrison added 11. Powdersville (15-8 overall, 7-4 in the region) finished region play in third place and will travel to Fairfield Central on Monday, February 11.
