GOING TO STATE!! Congratulations to Powdersville Varsity Girls Soccer on their 4-2 victory at Woodruff on Monday, May 6, 2019. Lady Patriots are the Class AAA 2019 Upperstate Champions! So exciting! Both teams raced to every stray ball, fought to control every loose one, and played never-give-up-soccer to the last whistle. Fans for both teams shared one set of stands, with each group cheering on their team for impressive plays on both ends of the field.
Powdersville and Woodruff protected the territory in the first half, with both taking shots on goal. In the second half, Lady Patriots were down 0-1 with 22:25 remaining when senior Bry Thobe orbited the ball from the right sideline. The ball hit the far corner of the top bar and bounced in the net to tie the score 1-1. Two minutes later, Thobe nailed a penalty kick to extend the Lady Patriots’ margin 2-1. Woodruff equalized the score at the 10:24 mark. A minute later, freshman Katherine Ream kicked high from a similar spot as Thobe. The ball wiped the back of the net on its way down and gave Powdersville a 3-2 advantage. With 4:42 remaining, sophomore Madison Lance worked her way to an open spot on the left sideline, then blasted a third high ball of the night that swished into the net on the opposite side. Way to go, Ladies!
