REPEAT UPPERSTATE CHAMPIONS!! Congratulations to Powdersville Varsity Volleyball on their 3-1 victory at Chapman on Monday, November 5, 2018. Lady Patriots won 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-22 to advance to the Class AAA state finals. All four sets were close, with margins less than three points most of the night. Chapman’s gym was a full house, with spirited student sections on both sides of the court.

In the first set, the Lady Patriots and Lady Panthers tied the score six times. At 16, Powdersville began to pull away, outscoring Chapman 9-3 and finished the set 25-19 on a kill by Junior Lexi Albright. In the second set, the score was tied 11 times, as late as 19-19. Chapman won the last point and the set with a shot directly on the outside line. Powdersville was down in the third set 14-18 and rallied to tie the score at 21. Lady Patriots and Lady Panthers traded points until Sophomore Oliva Knutson finished the set with a block and a kill for Lady Patriots to win 25-23.

In the final set, Powdersville was leading 16-11 when Chapman started a run that tied the score at 16. Chapman took the lead, and Powdersville caught up at 21. Powdersville scored to go up 22-21, then Chapman called time-out. From there, Knutson scored twice to put Lady Patriots up 24-21. With Powdersville fans chanting “ONE MORE POINT”, Chapman scored to make it 24-22. After several volleys, both sets of fans were quietly holding their breath when Lady Panthers bounced the ball into the net. As the ball hit the floor on Chapman’s side, Powdersville fans erupted, and Lady Patriots won 25-22. What a nail-biter!!

Sophomore Grace O’Neill served three aces. Senior Amelia Eggert received 10 serves and passed 12 digs. Senior Aspen Ridder received 16 serves and passed 18 digs. Junior Reagan Davis served one ace, hit three kills, and made 16 assists. Senior Kate Hardy made 16 assists and hit three kills. Senior Porcha Rivers hit seven kills with one solo block. Senior Savannah Roberts hit nine kills with one solo block and two block assists. Sophomore Olivia Knutson hit eight kills with one solo block and four block assists. Junior Lexi Albright served one ace, received 27 serves, passed 17 digs, hit 16 kills, and made one block assist.

With the win, Powdersville (23-1 overall, 10-0 in the region) advances to the State Final at White Knoll High School on Saturday, November 10. The Class AAA Championship starts at 2:30 pm. State!
